To support the expansion of our Advisory team in the Americas Region, we are currently seeking a Senior Cost Consultant for our Advisory team. Ideally this role will be located in New York or one of our East geography locations (Boston, New Jersey, Washington, D.C).

You will work within a dynamic team providing advice related to the constructability, cost, economics, schedule, procurement, development, and financing of a broad range of infrastructure and buildings projects that include transportation, energy, water, telecommunications, science and technology, and mixed-use development– delivered with an increasing focus on sustainability, decarbonization, resilience and ESG principals.

The Cost team works across the entire Arup organization and collaborates with most of our technical disciplines. We are looking for candidates who have relevant experience in the infrastructure and buildings sector and the types of projects that Arup typically are involved in. This is a great opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing team in the United States.  

We are looking for candidates who have validated experience in the infrastructure sector, aligned with the types of projects that Arup typically are involved in with a growing focus on sustainability, decarbonization, resilience and ESG principals.  This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing team in Canada.

Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with client authorities, project team members, and relevant parties to understand the scope and impact of projects.
  • Prepare various analyses such as cost estimating, scheduling, risk modeling, means and methods, and constructability assessments of proposed projects.
  • Find opportunities and inefficiencies within a construction project, be able to evaluate different construction options and develop solutions.
  • Develop Life Cycle Cost Analysis and Cost Benefit Analysis of various assets.
  • Outreach with the construction industry to understand sophisticated methods for infrastructure projects such as rail, bridges, tunnels, highways, and buildings.
  • Help lead, mentor, and supervise a growing team.
  • Work independently on products and review output analysis of others.
  • Be a market interfacing consultant and nurture these relationships.
  • Act as the Project lead for various projects.
  • Perform analysis in various construction software e.g. HCSS, Revit, AutoCAD, Microstation, Primavera, Sage, and others.
  • Develop, CAPEX, OPEX, LCCA and financial modeling, and skilled in presenting complex analysis. 
  • Work with a team of engineers and consultants to analyze the impact and cost of labor, material and other resources on various projects.
  • Understand how to read and analyze blueprints digitally and manually. Perform quantity take-offs.
  • Develop high-level and detailed construction cost estimates.
  • Work with clients in activities such as client meetings, presentations, workshops etc.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience within the Architecture, Engineering or Construction industry.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Construction Management, and or a related filed within the Built Environment. A minor, double major, or advanced degree or equivalent experience in Economics, Business or Finance.
  • Strong experience in infrastructure project development, procurement, construction, delivery and/or operations.
  • Have experience with risk management for major projects.
  • Outstanding quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills crucial for team-based working.
  • Membership of professional organizations or the ability to (e.g., CIQS or AACE)
  • Presentation skills with colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong proficiency in a technical or consulting area derived from professional experience (design, construction, development, owner/public sector, technical consulting, investment banking, management consulting, etc);
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills are required. Sophisticated ability with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong curiosity about and passion for working in the energy or infrastructure sectors.

Preferred

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Economics, Business, Finance.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
  • Flexibility and Out-of-the-Box innovative thinking.

Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $100,400 to $136,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
