Job Title: Mechanical CAE Engineer (Graduate to 2 years’ experience)
Join a small team in Nagoya, Japan, using LS-DYNA finite element analysis for the Japanese automotive industry. The position is ideal for an internationally minded engineer looking to gain expert-level skills in advanced computer aided engineering working in automotive safety and structures. Nagoya team activities:
•    We work as consultants to Japan’s largest automotive firms, mainly doing advanced occupant safety using LS-DYNA.
•    We push the capabilities of computer aided analysis to help our clients make cars safer and more efficient.
•    We are the bridge between Arup's software developers in the UK and India and our Japanese users, working together with our distributor and host company JSOL Corporation.  We use our unique, personal knowledge of our client's needs to drive the development of our software products and provide expert support to our clients through training and consulting.
 
Your role and development:
In this position you will become highly proficient in the engineering analysis software LS-DYNA, and its pre- and post-processors.  As part of an international team under expert guidance you have the chance to excel in a wide range of automotive projects, support Japanese clients, interact daily with our engineers in UK, China, USA & India, and develop a professional engineering career in relaxed working environment.

This role requires a good working knowledge of Japanese and English.
 
This position best suits those who are independently minded and happy to work outside of the rigid Japanese corporate environment. A willingness to learn and good organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly. Location:
This opening is in the Nagoya office of our partner, JSOL Corporation. The position will include an initial assignment to Arup in the UK for training and orientation lasting several months.
 
Day-to-day activities: 
•    Consulting project work for clients: developing finite element analysis models, assessing results, designing improvements.
•    Support, training, promotion & development of Oasys software (LS-DYNA pre- and post-processing, JavaScript tools): receiving support questions in Japanese, investigating issues, providing a response or forwarding the issue in English to our UK team.
•    Client visits to discuss project work or provide training in our software.
•    Test lab visits to observe and provide advice for simulation.
•    Research & development of new analysis techniques and technologies
•    Creating tutorials and other materials to help clients use our software.
 
Organisation:
•    This position is for full-time employment by Ove Arup & Partners, Japan, Limited.
•    Terms and conditions for employment, salary and other staffing issues are administrated by Arup's Tokyo office.
•    Day to day activities and technical development is managed by our UK-based group and supervised by an Arup associate in Nagoya.
 
Required Qualifications:
•    Master’s degree Structural, Mechanical or Materials Engineering
•    Competent Japanese and English language skills and a willingness to continue language studies

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Experience with LS-DYNA or other non-linear finite element code and other FEA tools
•    Interest in simulation and testing for occupant injury mitigation, pedestrian protection and other areas of automotive safety
•    Experience with JavaScript or similar scripting language

•    Competitive salary with twice-yearly profit share
