The Opportunity 

 

We are seeking a suitably qualified Senior Fire Engineer for a wide range of challenging mission critical projects in our Italy team, based in our office located in the city centre of Milan.  

As a Lead Fire Engineer at Arup, you will: 

 

  • Lead the design and delivery of the fire strategy of technically demanding projects in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and in collaboration with the fire statutory role subconsultant 
  • Lead the Fire Protection systems design in coordination with teams internal and external. 
  • Act as project lead in managing the service and in having a direct interface with the clients’ teams. 
  • Lead the development of calculations related to fire safety studies, from simplified calculations to modelling with advanced CFD methods, FEM or modelling of the movement of people. 
  • Liaise with clients from feasibility to completion to assist in setting and delivering the design ambitions. 
  • Review and audit work on fire safety in buildings and existing infrastructures. 
  • Manage the execution of the fire engineering statutory roles from subconsultants. 
  • Assist in developing our Fire Engineering business by attending client meetings, producing bid documentation and general business development activities, but also by taking personal responsibility for the management and development of your colleagues. 
  • Actively share knowledge across the team to strive to deliver the highest quality of service to our clients. 

Is this role right for you? 

 

We're seeking a passionate fire engineer. You'll also need: 

 

  • Chartered Engineer status with a proven track record in delivering mission critical facilities projects. 
  • BS in Architectural, Mechanical Engineering, Building engineering or similar studies. 
  • Master's Degree in Fire Safety Engineering or similar. 
  • Previous experience on fire safety and/or fire protection engineering. 
  • High level of English and Italian (C1). 
  • Knowledge of Fire safety standards – BS, NFPA, FM Global and Italian fire codes. 
  • Knowledge of these software packages is beneficial: 
    • Building Information Modelling (BIM) – Revit. 
    • Hydraulic calculations- Namirial  
    • CFD modelling tools applied to fire modeling and Smoke – FDS / Ansys. 
    • People movement modeling tools – MassMotion / Legion / Conqueror. 
    • Structural modeling tools in fire situations – Safir/ ls Dyna.
