We are currently seeking a Regional Power Systems Studies Leader with a track record in winning and managing the delivery of system studies projects to lead our regional team and support our growth in this sector. You will work with a growing local and global team; striving to support renewable developers, ISO/RTO, transmission developers, government agencies and utilities to expand the transmission system to accommodate the large-scale renewables, new technologies and the evolving grid. The successful candidate is a highly skilled and innovative engineer who leaves a strong positive impression on clients and one who has a vision and insight to drive a regional team, win work and deliver excellence. The successful candidate key focus will be to provide leadership to establishing our presence in key markets in the Northeast, Midwest and the South and have a hands-on delivery of strategy and growth.

Our growth will be achieved from a combination of delivery of technical excellence, development of select intellectual property and key client relationships on gigawatt scale power developments.

Role and Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction related to business growth and work winning in ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM MISO and ERCO
  • Provide future talent acquisition and retention strategy with focus on specialization.
  • Has a vision for effective project delivery such as automation, propitiatory tools development and digital application.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in the firm to build a network to support business growth.
  • Establish a team and this includes hiring and contributing to growth strategies in this space.
  • Strong team leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Manages and develop a wider team that reports directly and indirectly into this role.
  • Being able to articulate a vision both internally and externally in line with Arup purpose.
  • Able to deal and resolve sophisticated problems and situations.

Business Development

  • Lead the business development activities of the Power Systems function with special focus on the selected ISO/RTO.
  • Lead major proposal preparation and procure work. Preparing Arup submission material including scope, schedule fees and terms and conditions,
  • Be responsible and accountable for client relations (internal and/or external)
  • Ensure Arup contends effectively through a detailed understanding of external market conditions (method of procurement, fees, scope of service, conditions, and competitor benchmarks).
  • Connect with existing and new clients and maintain strategic contacts and representing Arup’s overall capability.

Technical

  • Solid knowledge and understanding of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs’ interconnection or transmission planning guidelines.
  • Specific knowledge of the Northeast ISO’s transmission system including planning guidelines, market footprint, transmission development and future ISO plans.
  • Ability to supervise the execution of load flow and steady state studies, evaluation of transfer capability and security limits and short-circuit/fault studies, transient stability studies, as well as specialized studies such as harmonic distortions and electromagnetic transient studies.
  • While this role is not expected to complete studies, candidate should have a familiarity of PSS/E, PSCAD, PowerGEM TARA and/or ASPEN. Knowledge of PSLF is a plus.
  • Solid quality check capability of models and results to maintain the highest level of quality services.
  • Produce and/or review quality technical reports and presentations for both internal and external clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; an advanced degree or equivalent experience (master’s or PhD) is highly preferred.
  • At least 15 years of hands-on experience in delivering power system studies using PSS/E or PSLF and/or PSCAD/EMTDC and/or PowerGEM TARA.
  • At least 3 years in team and business leadership.
  • PE license.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of engineers, other technical and support staff.
  • Excellent business development with outstanding team leadership and relationship building skills.
  • Demonstrated strong commercial competence and financial skills.
  • Sound industry networks among potential client market and a significant reputation in a relevant area of expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills crucial for team-based working.
  • Effective presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, as needed, to achieve agreed goals and results.
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.

 

Hiring Range -The good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in California is $185,000 and $255,000. Benefits are not included in the base salary range. Summary of benefits are included in this posting with details provided to applicants at the time of interview. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of California will differ.
