The primary focus of the Consultant is to provide protective design consultancy services, employing world’s best-practice solutions in bringing commercially focused security and blast solutions to clients’ business activities. The role operates primarily within the Singapore marketplace and will contribute to the other services provided by Arup’s Resilience, Security & Risk (RSR) practice within the Australasia Region. Our RSR team provides trusted security and resilience advice to both private and public sector clients worldwide.

It is a critical pre-requisite that the person be able to be security cleared by Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs and that they learn, understand and apply completely the requirements documented in Singapore’s (and other like government’s) Official Secrets Act.


The Opportunity

  • Undertake, manage and deliver the protective design of a range of buildings for a variety of projects through all stages of design from concept through detailed design to construction, and within established quality, budget and project expectations;
  • Perform design checks and/or analysis (local/global response) to blast engineering standards such as UFC 3-340-01, UFC 3-340-02, UFC 4-023-03, ASCE 59-11, and in accordance with relevant local building codes and regulations;
  • Experience in blast analysis on reinforced concrete, steel and composite structures;
  • Engage with clients and/or their representatives to understand their requirements in relation to security risk management and tailor the delivery of the protective design consultancy service to their individual needs and advise best outcomes;
  • Work collaboratively with the RSR team leader, other members of the team, and/or other Arup teams globally to develop coherent, risk-based security strategies integrating electronic, physical and active security with protective design and/or blast measures to ensure successful delivery of projects/assignments;


Is this role right for you?

  • Preferably recognized as Competent Person (Blast) under Infrastructure Protection Act;
  • Preferably degree in civil/structural engineering or equivalent;
  • At least 5 years of experience in protective design/blast engineering (or alternatively relevant research/industry experience);
  • Membership of relevant professional institutions/professional peer bodies or significant credit towards eligibility for membership;
  • Experience in the use of structural analysis software packages / computational fluid dynamics software packages e.g., GSA, SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD, Strand7, LS-DYNA / Air3D, Viper::Blast, ProSAir, APOLLO.
