The Opportunity 

We are looking for a BIM Lead to join our multi-disciplinary Data Center team in Milan.

The Building Information Modelling skills network is a global group of specialists, modelers, coordinators, developers, designers, and BIM project managers and consultants within Arup. We use our collective talents to deliver technology-led solutions to clients, and in doing so we help transforming the way that cities, buildings, and physical networks are planned and delivered.

Our team serves as a catalyst for automation across Arup. Every day we use cloud-based web applications, novel automation workflows, geospatial tools, data analytics, and more to advance the design and delivery of airports, rail networks, urban infrastructure, bridges, tunnels, skyscrapers, and other key components of the built environment.

Our team members are involved in the full life cycle of digitally modelled solutions, from ideation to requirements gathering, design, development, delivery as constructed and digital twins.

As a BIM Lead at Arup, you will:

  • Be the BIM Lead for Data Center projects and you will report to Italy Group BIM leader.
  • Manage the BIM project deliverable and contractual requirements.
  • Manage client facing meetings with clients’ BIM teams to coordinate projects development, data workflows and deliverables.
  • Manage and coordinate BIM project data sets/workflows and project set up.
  • Host VDR and CDR project meetings, proactively communicating design coordination issues to the design team (internal and external) and implementing their resolution. 
  • Actively practice and support ongoing improvements to Italy Group BIM team automation tools, software, and best practice workflows.
  • Be involved in the preparation of bids and proposals. Establishing scope, resources, and budgets for projects. Support stakeholders and legacy; commercial & procurement and benefits.
  • Ensure technical excellence in all packages delivered to clients.
  • Support and teach creativity and innovation within the team, in promoting the efficient use of advanced computation strategies.
  • Be active within the local market to manage existing clients and to build network.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts and Discipline leads to establish cost-effective, practical approaches to integrating BIM throughout delivery.
  • Support the Project Delivery Manager in the selection of supply chain partners by assisting with their assessment and development.
  • Work with the relevant individuals to establish and support the Common Data Environment.
  • Establish and work with a network of Lead Designers, Interface Managers, and task information managers to ensure adherence to the BIM requirements of the project in accordance with the BEP.
  • Work to maximise the benefits of improved information management in Health and Safety, Sustainability, Operations and Maintenance etc.
  • Championing BIM on the project and promote, articulate and lead BIM behaviours.
  • Lead, develop and coach individuals to build high performing teams and leave a legacy of talent in BIM.

 

Is this role right for you?

You'll also need: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master Degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent industry qualification/experience.
  • Certified BIM Manager, or with on-going BIM Manager certification, according to ISO19650 or UNI11337
  • 12+ years of experience working in the building design/construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Data Center design, engineering and consulting.
  • Understanding and implementating BIM protocol documentation.
  • Proficient in AutoDesk suite, including BIM360 and ACC with a good working knowledge of industry design tools and collaboration platforms.
  • Ability to use Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD Essential. 
  • Ability to use Navisworks and Solibri would be an advantage. 
  • Ability of Civil 3D would be an advantage. 
  • Ability to use other CDE (Aconex, Asite, etc.) would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Power BI would be an advantage.
  • Programming skills using Python, Dynamo or Rhino.Inside.Revit or Speckle would be an advantage.
  • Practical experience delivering 4D/5D models desirable.
  • Experience with VR/AR applications desirable.
  • Knowledge of BIM processes for information management to ISO19650-1/2 and UNI11337 would be an advantage. 
  • Good time management skills, ability to prioritise work, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong communication skills essential for multidisciplinary team-based working.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English
  • Build and maintain high performance, engaged and motivated team.
  • Analytical skills and ability to methodically plan and source BIM projects.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels in both technical and non-technical environments to provide learning on BIM and drive adoption of BIM process, to ensure sustainable transformation. Providing proactive technical support and mentoring as required to project teams and the overall practice.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships (locally and internationally) using flexible interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships within Arup and external parties.
  • Thorough understanding and exposure to multidisciplinary environment.
